The Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation (ETL)
The Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation (ETL) represents Finnish companies in the food and drink industries in labor market and industry policy contexts. The activities of companies within the spheres of the ETL cover the majority of food and drink industry production in Finland. The Finnish food and drink industry is Finland’s fourth biggest industry. The industry employs 38 000 people. The entire food chain employs approximately 266 000 people in Finland.
In 2030 the demand for food will have increased by 50%, energy by 45% and water by 30%. Therefore, the bio economy of the food and drink industry is also a matter of food security and security of supply. Food production is a prerequisite for a functioning society. The starting points of bio economy in our food chain are securing the national security of supply, durability of food production, valuation of food and nutrition as a part of wellbeing. The food chain makes bio economy visible to the consumers.
